I had run this race last year too, but when I signed up again this year, I had wanted this to be a training run for my 2010 NYC Marathon.

Up to 16 inches of snow is predicted in New York City today, but am not sure about it. I was brave and came to work. The pictures above show the scene this morning. It wasn’t cold, though I expect the snow to freeze and make walking and driving difficult later tonight. Its the blowing snow that made seeing and walking difficult on my way to work.

I take the subway train, so need to make sure I walk gingerly and watch out for puddles and ice under the snow on my way home.

Update: Across the Hudson, most of New Jersey has already received 18 inches of snow today.

This morning I ran for the first time with the Jersey City runners. It was cold, between 30-35F, but the morning air and the waterfront was invigorating. Thanks to Chennai Runners in India for igniting the passion of long distance running in me and to Asha Charity group in NYC for helping  me complete my first marathon.  I hope to have a good running buddy system with the JC runners.

I ran with Sam who organizes this meetup. He ran at an easy pace and is the kind of guy  a newcomer would feel easy to run with. Since we are still in winter not many members show up for the run. The weather is getting warmer now and so people will start coming out of hibernation for the run.

So if you are in Jersey City, then check out the meetup group and join us.

Happy running!

Bally Total Fitness After completing my Marathon in Oct. ’08, I had been physically inactive as I found it difficult to run in the cold weather. Unfortunately there was no Gym close to my home that I could join. Now, Bally’s have opened this center less than 10 minutes walk from my home and I did go and check them out. It’s a decent place. However, I had read horror stories on the web about their membership rules and how many were lured into long term contracts from which they could not get out. That made me hesitant. I tried to see if I could join them through my employer’s network, but this being a new center, it was not in the network. So I called the network provider, spoke to their customer rep and now 2-3 days later I have enrolled on a month-to-month contract.

I am going to start using the gym and start getting in shape. Wish me luck !

I will post my views on the gym as I start using them. Watch this space.
