Update: I succumbed and created a new Facebook account with my new name. I had officially changed my name on becoming a US Citizen about 5 years ago.

Influenced by invites from close friends, I too succumbed and created an account. But then I started wondering what the fuss was all about. I want to meet my close friends, speak to them on phone or when possible hang out with them. I don’t want to know from their status if my friends are getting drunk or are generally peeved over some thing or other. To me Facebook was an irritant and an unwelcome distraction. When I tried to delete my account, lo and behold, I couldn’t do it ! Facebook only let me ‘deactivate’ my account thus storing all my information intact in the hope that I would come back later. No thanks!
So, for many of us who no longer want to be on Facebook, here is the solution.
Go to this page:
Your account will be permanently deleted within a few days.
This method is official and should be complete, i.e. no need to delete individual photos, comments, messages or items from your profile or anywhere else on Facebook. And yes, you are welcome! 😀
