This yearly occurrence is a sight to behold and happens with the onset of Spring. It lasts for barely a week and this year the peak bloom period is from April 1-4 2009. I am very very tempted to drive down to DC this weekend to see it.

Here is the blurb from the offficial site –

“The famous trees, a gift from Japan in 1912, signal Washington’s rite of spring with an explosion of life and color that surrounds the Tidal Basin in a sea of pale pink and white blossoms. Thousands of city residents and visitors from across the nation and around the world come to DC to witness the spectacle”
